The parliamentary leader of Canada's New Democratic Party (NDP) said here last night that his country's government should pursue a gradual takeover of all multinational corporation activity on Canadian soil.
David Lewis, whose Democratic Socialist party has held the balance of power in the Canadian Parliament since the October 1972 elections, told a South House audience that multinational corporations have exploited the Canadian environment.
Since the last election, in which NDP candidates captured 31 seats in Parliament, the party has sought to demonstrate that a minority government is preferable to the majority rule that has dominated Canadian politics in the past, Lewis said.
