The Mets clinched a tie for the championship with a 9-2 victory in the second game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals both won yesterday to keep their hopes alive in the hottest pennant race in National League history.

The Pirates defeated and eliminated the Montreal Expos 10-2 while the Cardinals tripped the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1.
