Harvard's unbeaten squash team racked up another victory and continued its drive toward another national championship as it dumped Dartmouth Saturday afternoon in Hemenway Gymnasium, 9-0.
It was the fifth straight shutout for the defending Ivy and NCAA champs who were expected to beat the weak Green squad.
The favorite swept all 27 games for a perfect win. It was the second complete shutout for the Crimson this season.
Harvard used its regular squad against Dartmouth. Captain Peter Briggs played number one. Andy Weigand two, Glen Whitman three, Neil Vosters four, and Robbie Sedgwick five. Archie Gwathmey was six, Peter Blasier seven, Fred Fisher eight, and Dick Cashin nine.
Crimson squash coach Jack Barnaby said that he expected the toughest opposition to come from Navy, Princeton and Penn in matches scheduled for early February.
Barnaby said he would not make any special preparations for the contests. "I don't schedule matches or engage in intensive training during exam period. It's not fair to expect the players to be at their best when they are worried about passing exams," he said.
"After exams the players won't be taking time off during intersession; that should be ample time to sharpen up our game," he added.
Barnaby was optimistic about the chances for the Crimson raquetmen. "I think we are as good a squad as any around; if we stay healthy and play the game we are capable of we will be tough to beat," he said.
