Medical Corporation Gives $1 Million To Harvard-MIT Research Program

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A manufacturer of medical and surgical products last week donated $1,000,000 to the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology.

Dr. Irving M. London, director of the program, said yesterday that the gift from Becton Dickinson and Company will be used to endow two term professorships--one at Harvard and one at MIT.

"The money will be used to give younger faculty members with unusual potential in the health sciences a professorship for a definite term, say of five years. Then, when they move up, the position will be filled by other junior faculty members," London said.

This gift is the first major industrial grant to the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology. The program is aimed at educating physicians with a strong base in science and engineering.
