Jim Ryun finished fourth in the 800 meter run finals at the United States Men's Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon Saturday, and thus failed to qualify to run that event at the Games in Munich later this summer. Dave Wottle, a Bowling Green junior, tied the world record of 1:44-3 in winning the race. Rick Wohlhuter of Illinois was second at 1:45.0, Ken Swenson was third at 1:45.1, while Ryun finished an agonizing yard back of a place on the team in 1:45.2.
Later this week, Ryun plans to attempt to qualify for the 1500 meters, and he will be running against Wottle once more.
