Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
The Harvard golf team took it on the chin last weekend at the Eastern intercollegiate championships at Yale, finishing ninth. The showing was disappointing to the golfers, who had felt that they could take the meet.
Penn State, expected to be a strong contender, won the meet with a score of 614. Villanova finished second at 622, followed by Princeton at 625 and Brown at 630.
Cornell. Penn. Columbia, Yale and Harvard rounded out the top nine. Harvard finished with 643.
The results, which gave Penn State the Eastern Championship, made Princeton the Ivy champ.
"We were pretty disappointed," said team member Skip Barry. "The night before the meet, we really thought we could take it, but it didn't turn out that way."
Barry, like several of his teammates, turned in an uneven performance. On Saturday, he shot a very disappointing 89, and then came back on Sunday with a 72, the best score of the day, to come in at 161. Similar--and more disastrous--was the performance of Andy Marks, who shot 81 on Saturday, and 90 on Sunday, for a 171 total.
Harvard's top performance came from Terry Wynn, who had Saturday's second lowest match score of 76, and posted a 79 on Sunday for a 155 total, the seventh best overall.
Captain Skip Kinner carded Harvard's second best score, 81-78--159. Quinn Smith posted 79 on Saturday, and 88 on Sunday for 167.
