The Harvard tennis team's three-game winning streak is on the line today as the racquetmen face a strong Navy squad at home. The Crimson is favored in what could be a close match.
The team will be using the same lineup it deployed against Williams on Tuesday and Dartmouth last Saturday. Harvard shutout the Ephmen. 9-0, after trouncing the Indians, 7-2, in a surprising runaway.
Sophomore Harris Masterson will lead the squad while Ken Lindner will play second singles. Masterson and Lindner will also play first doubles.
John Ingrad. Tom Loring. Randy Bennet and captain Chris Nielson round out the lineup.
Number One
Masterson and Lindner are expected to take their singles matches, and also the doubles, without too much difficulty. Lindner defeated Navy's Number One man. Ike Dawson, in the fall Eastern Intercollegiates.
The racquetmen go into the match with a 2-2 record in the Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Since Williams is not an association member, the Tuesday victory did not count toward Harvard's league record.
Aesthetics
Harvard's mark was marred in the first weekend of play when it lost to both Columbia and Princeton. These losses--described by Nielson as "aesthetically traumatic"--were followed by wins over an unaesthetic Brown squad and a prettier Dartmouth team.
The Crimson's overall record is 5-6, with four of the losses coming on it's spring trip against some of the best competition the South had to offer.
Lindner said last night that the victory over Williams did a great deal to continue the process of rebuilding the team's confidence which was badly shaken in the first weekend's matches.
