SKI WEEKEND

More than 45 skiers are expected to compete today on Mount Washington in the 38th running of the Harvard-Dartmouth slalom.

Ski team members, undergraduates, alumni, and members of the Dartmouth and Harvard outing clubs will be competing for the Bradford Washburn Trophy. Washburn, currently director of the Museum of Science, initiated the event in 1934.

The slalom course is set on Hillman's Highway in Tuckerman's Ravine on Mount Washington. The course is approximately 2000 feet long with a 600 foot vertical drop and a 30 degree pitch.

Competitors will have to pack over two miles into the area from the Hermit Lake Shelter, winter headquarters for the U.S. Forest Service, due to the threat of late spring avalanches on Mount Washington.
