Shklar, Owens: Experts In Politics and in Law

Judith Nisse Shklar has taught political theory at Harvard since 1956.

Originally from Latvia, Shklar received her B.A. and M.A. from McGill University, and her Ph.D. from Harvard in 1955. A teacher whose courses are described as rigorous but popular, she has received numerous awards for her scholarship, and has published such works as After Utopla and Legalism.

Elizabeth Ann Owens, presently research director of Harvard's International Tax Program, has done research on water management and taught at the Law School since 1956.

Owens received her A.B. degree summa cum laude in economics from Smith College in 1919, studied economics at the University of Chicago, was an economist for seven years in U.S. agencies, and then received her LL.B. degree from the Yale Law School in 1951.

She has edited Harvard research reports, and is the author of The Foreign Tax Credit.
