NEW HAVEN - Undefeated Pierson College downed the Radcliffe intramural champion basketball team, 49-40, here on Saturday.

Pierson jumped off to an 11-3 lead, led by the shooting and ball handling of Dick Jauron - Eli football fullback.

The Yale five entered halftime with a 22-14 lead. Radcliffe's hopes were bolstered when John Runyon pumped in four straight buckets in the first minute of the second half to pull the Crimson within two points. But Pierson pulled away again.

With a minute to go, the Cliffe again made a comeback attempt, cutting Yale's lead to four points, but lost on Yale foul shots in the last minute.

Runyon led the 'Cliffe with 15 points and Charles Yon chipped in 10.

"Although Yale had a well-disciplined squad, they might have been beaten by any of the top three or four teams in the Harvard intramural league," 'Cliffe coach Vince Lackner commented after the game. "I think that perhaps our players were still recovering from their high celebration after the Wednesday night Leverett game," he added.
