Griffin Sentenced In 'Casa B' Killing

A 24 year-old Cambridge resident pleaded guilty yesterday to charges of second degree murder in the January 29 slaying of Govert K van Schaik '62 former manager and a part owner of the Club Casablanca.

Carl W. Griffin who turned himself in to Cambridge's Third District Courthouse six days after the shooting was sentenced to life imprisonment at Walpole Correctional Institution.

Griffin had been held without bail at the Billerica House of Detention since February 4, following his arrest at the Cambridge Courthouse.

Van Schaik was shot during business hours on a Saturday night at the 40 Brattle Street establishment.

Detective Fidele Centrella, who was working on the case, said yesterday that there was "no apparent motive for the killing."
