J.V. Basketball to Open Against a Roxbury University

The JV basketball team will open its season today against the University without walls in Roxbury at the IAB.

JV coach Bob Hart said last night that he knew nothing about the opposition, but he expressed confidence in the ability of the Crimson's second unit.

Varsity Offense

The JV practices with the varsity everyday, but has not had much work as a unit, Hart said. Hart indicated that the JV would use the same offense that coach Harrison employs with the varsity.

Mike Griffin and Arnold Needleman will fill the guards slots for the Crimson. Needleman was the third leading scorer for the freshmen last year, averaging 14.5 points a game. Griffin will probably direct the JV's offense tomorrow and Hart said that he showed good poise against the varsity in an intersquad scrimmage last week.

Jeff Wheat, Len Adams and Lewis Brown will play up front. Wheat played 19 seconds of the varsity game against Indiana Saturday and was ejected from the game after accidentally clotheslining a Hoosier ball player. Adams was the second leading rebounder and scorer for the freshmen last year and has a fine outside shot.

Brown had a strong game Tuesday night against the varsity and averaged 10.8 points for last year's freshmen.

In the past the JV program was run independently from varsity's. This year, because of the large number of talented young players, Harrison brought in Hart, a fine defensive coach, to work with the second group.
