Officials Elaborate On Hiring Plan, Explain Confusion

The Administration explained yesterday why department chairman are uncertain about specific provisions of Harvard's Affirmative Action plan for hiring more minorities and women.

Winifred S. barad, Equal Employment officer for the Faculty said yesterday that the various faculties are still determining how their departments can draw up the goals and timetables required by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

After receiving guidelines from their particular Faculty, each department will set goals and timetables, Barad explained. These will then be submitted to HEW for approval.

A partially completed survey, which is being conducted by the Graduate Women's Organization, shows that most department heads are unaware of how to set the goals and timetable required by HEW.
