J.V. Mermen Drown Huskies Despite Swimmers' Illnesses

Despite the absence of two top swimmers, the JV aquamen soundly defeated the University of Connecticut, 67-46.

The Crimson mermen took first place in ten out of 11 individual events and walked off with the 400 meter freestyle and medley relays. Dave English won both the one and three-meter diving.

The only individual event that UConn was able to take was the 200 meter breaststroke. Jim Smith of Harvard finished first, but was disqualified for not touching both hands against the end of the pool at the same time while finishing.

There were three double winners for the JV's: John Craig won the 200 meter individual medley and the 200 meter butterfly: Mike Each took the 1000 meter freestyle and the 200 meter backstroke: and Mike Pinckney finished first in both the 200 and 500 meter freestyle.

Mark Depman and Heff Yntema also had firsts, while Tom Currier and Dave Riso helped out with a second and a third in the breaststroke.
