Crimson footballers lead two categories, but the Yale Bulldogs, who overwhelmed Dartmouth last Saturday, 45-14, to take undisputed lead in the Ivy League, dominate the Ivy statistics.
Crimson punter Jim Stoeckel maintained his lead in the booting category, averaging 37.4 yards a kick. Halfback Ted DeMars also continued his lead in scoring, with six touchdowns to his credit, one touchdown ahead of Yalies Rudy Green and Tyrell Hennings.
In total offensive yards, Yale stands on top with an average of 405.5 yards per game. Cornell follows the Elis, showing 355.8 yards, while Dartmouth has averaged a close 345.3.
The Crimson placed fourth in total offense with a respectable 326.3 yards per game.
Yale's scond top rating is in total rushing yards where they hold a 500-yard lead over Cornell--which has 1409 yards. The Elis wishbone runners--Dick Jauron, Tyrell Hennings, Rudy Green and Tom Doyle--all stand in the top ten rushers. Jauron holds first place in rushing by over 120 yards.
Harvard placed fourth in the rushing category and only 11 yards away from Dartmouth. Ted DeMars, premier Crimson running back, has compiled only eight yards less than number two rusher Dan Malone of Cornell.
Yale completed its statistical hat trick in the scoring category, where it moved five points ahead of Dartmouth with an average of 34.8 points a game. Harvard bettered its other statistical performances here, finishing third with 25.3 yards.
The passing category is totally different than others, for Yale places last with only 213 yards but second-to-last place Brown nails down first with 722. Harvard stands a poor sixth here, compiling only 493 yards passing in all its games.
On top in the defensive categories are Columbia, which jumped from fourth to first place this week, allowing a more 293.3 yards a game, while second placer Princeton has given up 294 yards.
Eli Tom Doyle won Ivy Back of the Week honors for his 160 yards and one touchdown in 12 carries.
Brown's Tyler Chase broke Charlie Gogalak's carrier record with his 17th field goal and tied the former Princeton's season record with his eighth of the season.
