SMU Triumphs Over JV Squad, 3-1

The JV booters lost a disappointing game to Southeastern Massachusetts University yesterday by a score of 3-1. The Crimson had a number of excellent scoring opportunities throughout the game, but just couldn't put the ball in the net.

SMU tallied first 24 minutes after the start of the game. The score came in a goalmouth scramble that ended with SMU forward Pimental pushing the ball pear the bewildered Harvard netminder Ben Bryan.

Less than s minute later, SMU pulled off its second score. A hard penalty kick bounced off Bryan's chest and Pimental was there once against to tap the ball into the net. The Crimson had some chances but couldn't cash in us them and, as a result, trained at the half, 2-0.

The JV's came back in the first 15 minutes of the second half, and managed to score of the second half, and managed to score at 13:24. Brock Walsh lofted a high pass across the goalmouth, and Fred Weiss blasted the ball into the lower left corner to cut SMU's lead to one point.

SMU finished the scoring with 24 minutes remaining. This goal wasn't like the others it came on a lofting shot that jut under the crumble and over the Crimson goaltender.

The JV's had a couple of easy goals on the first ten minutes of the game, but failed to convert them into scores. The play was mostly even throughout the afternoon despite the score. The defense played well and could handily be faulted for two of the SMU goals. The offense sputtered, however, when they got the ball into enemy territory.

"It was a discouraging game," said assistant varsity coach Seamus Malin. "We clearly should have won. We had a couple of gift at chances to score but we couldn't finish the plays.

"Our main problem is that we don't have anybody who is able to pot the ball away," Malin added. "This is what happened in the B.U. game, We should have won that game too." The JV's lost to B.U. in front overtime by a score of 2-1 "Again they couldn't cash in on scoring opportunities.

The loss dropped the JV booters record to 1-4-1. Babson stunned the Crimson in the season opener 3-2 and Brown shut them out 4-0. The only victory came against the University of Connecticut by a score of 3-2. The JV's managed to pull out a 1-1 tie in their game against Tufts.

With only one game left against Brown a winning season a out of the question. Coach Malin, however, praised his team. "They're a good bunch of guys, they deserved better, he said.
