Popkin's Deadline Extended a Week

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Samuel L. Popkin, assistant professor of Government, has received a seven-day extension of the time the First Circuit Court of Appeals gave him to agree to answer questions before a Boston grand jury investigating the release of the Pentagon Papers.

The extension moves the deadline from tomorrow to November 10.

Popkin filed a petition for a stay with the U.S. Supreme Court last Thursday. If granted, it will allow him and his attorneys to appeal to that court on the civil contempt citations currently pending against him.

Popkin has been engaged in a legal battle for over a year to avoid answering certain questions before the grand jury on the grounds that they are not relevant to the mainstream of its investigation.
