S. California and UCLA Will Battle It Out Today For Pacific-Eight Crown

The Southern California-UCLA batter, with the victor winning the Pacific-8 championship and the host spot in the covered Rose Bowl, highlights today, gridiron action.

Also up for grabs will be the Big Ten championship, with either third-ranked Michigan, ninth-rated Ohio State, Purdue, of Michigan State taking it.

The Trojans of Southern Cal, number one in the polls since the season began, will face their cross town rivals, the 14th ranked Bruins, of UCLA, in what is expected to be a packed Los Angeles Coliseum, Southern Cal, with a one-game lead on the Bruins needs only a tie to take the Bowl and the championship. The game will begin at 8 p.m. EST.

Although bowl assignments will be released officially tomorrow at 6 p.m., they have already leaked out. Bear Bryant's second-ranked Alabama will contest the seventh-place Longhorns of Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma, four in the rankings, meets Joe Paterno's sixth-ranked Penn State in the Sugar Bowl.
