Stephen S. J. Hall, vice president best Administration, has ordered a thorough security check of South House on Monday. The security check was requested by the South House Committee and Anne Peretz. Co-master of South Housez.

The investigation will focus Cabot Hall because of allegations by students that locks on outside and hallway doors can be easily picked and that root windows do not lock properly.

when he ordered the investigation Hall said We won't stand for a situation where we place people in jeopardy." Sargent George Hill Jr. of the University police will lead the investigation.

As a result of several incidents of theft and assault since classes resumed. Cabot residents have been voluntarily sitting bell from 4 to 11 p.m.

It's very clear to me that people are scared." Peretz said "Some freshmen even suggested building fences or walls, It's a bad thing to have people perpetually nervous where they're living," she added.

This year, petty thefts from rooms in Cabot have totalled over $100, Steven R. Eastaugh '74, a Cabot resident, said yesterday. Eastaugh added that he and a female resident were assaulted this year.

"I caught five people last year and one this year." Eastaugh said. "Every one of them came in through the side door, turned off the lights in the stairwell, and sneaked up the stairs," he continued. According to Eastaugh, items as large as a 150 pound football game were stolen last year, especially during vacations.

Although the Cabot students have been checking bursar's cards since the assaults two weeks ago, many have expressed the feeling that a more permanent solution isnecessary.

Several students have suggested that the number of watchmen be increased, either by hiring students or more professionals.

A list of desired improvements was compiled by Cabot residents. Those recommended as most urgent include the replacement of door locks which do not have dead bolts, and the installation of window locks for ground level and roof windows.

The list also includes permanent stairwell lights locks for basement doors between buildings and alarm checks for tire exit doors.

Bursar's Card

Students who sit bells have requested a permanent sign for the two main doors of Cabot informing everyone that a bursar's card is required for entrance unless one is accompanied by a Cabot resident.

Other areas of concern to South House residents include the unlocked door into the South House Grill and the back staircases in all of the large brick dorms.
