With the New England Whalegs a man down, Renald Lecierc of the Quebec Nordiques split the defense to break in alone on Whaler goalie Al Smith to end New England's three-game winning streak, 4-3, at the Boston Garden last night.

* Leclerc scored the tying and winning goals.

The Nordiques, of the World Hockey Association, overcame a two goal deficit in the final 13 minutes of their game against the Whalers to take the contest.

Scoring for the Whalers were Larry Pleau, Rick Ley, and Tom Webster, Attendance at the Garden was 10,460.
