Club Casablnea, 40 Brattle St., will sponsor a backgammon tournament at 6 p.m. Sunday in an effort to raise money for the New England Eye Bank. The first 64 persons to pay the $10 entry fee will be able to play.
The club had been the site of informal backgammon games on Thursday nights for the past four or five months. The game, similar in to parchesi involves the rolling of dies to more men to strategic positions on a board.

Prince Alexis Obolinsky of New York City, reputed to be one of the world's best backgammon players will attend the match according tournament director Herbert Foster. Other participants will determine it Obolinsky will be allowed to play, he said yesterday.
Prize money will be divided into Two categories. First Prize in the main tournament will be $175. First and Second round losers will compete for the $75 consolation prize.
A drawing for first round opponents will be held at the club at 5 p.m. Sunday. Anyone who has not pre-registered must be at the club at that time.
Who's Playing
"Backgammon has been played for years at clubs, but it's a new thing for people around here." Foster said. "We'd like to see who in Boston is playing."
