Water Polo Team Nips Huskies, 11-8

A determined Crimson seven, withstanding a during rally by Northwestern, best the Huskies, 11-8 in waterpole section at the IAB last night.

The Huskies scored four fourth quarter goals, screwing the Harvard land to 9-0, and threatening as upset at the undefeated Crimson. But Harvard's defense forced a couple of hey turnovers, and two goals in the last minute of plug pet the game out of reach.

"When we get a lead, our defense tends to get lax," captain Mike Graff said after the game. "But as usual, we were able to hold on."

The Crimson, who took first at last week's MIT Tournament, started the game without their star goalis Doug Forrester, who was sidelined with a knee injury. Tracy Mallory moved from the defense to goal and made 18 saves.

Both teams appeared evenly matched in the first quarter, each storing twice. "We were a little nervous," Graff said. "And we were really concentrating more on our defense."

The Crimson alternated between a men to men and double teaming defense and broke the game open is the second quarter. Following an initial goal by Graff, four more Harvard goals gave the Crimson a 7-2 lead at the half.

The scoring for the game was evenly divided among Graham White (3 goals), Pete Kellogg (3), Mike Graff (3) and Dan Duiss (2). Northeastern's high scorers were John Hart and Armie Markas with two goals spiece.

With its undefeated record unblemished, the team hosts Brown at the IAB next week. "Now THAT should be a goal close game," Graff said.
