The Harvard JV Hockey Squad handed Boston State a 10-3 defeat yesterday afternoon--the second win this season over BSC--to bring its season record to 7-2.
Sandy Milley started off the scoring for the Crimson with a goal early in the first period. Two goals by Senior Don Olson gave Harvard a 3-1 advantage by the end of the first period.
The second period saw three more Crimson goals and a scoreless period for BSC Penalties on both teams marred the second period action. Mike Giannattasio, assisted by Red Jahnky, scored a short-handed goal for one of the three Crimson scores.
Starting the final period with a comfortable 6-1 lead. Coach Jim Hutchinson pulled starting goalie George Anderson, replacing him with Howie Rose. The Crimson scored four goals in the period, getting goals from Stu. Harris, Rick Cowen, and Lev Byrd, while Rose let in only two BSC goals.
"It was a closer game than the score showed." Coach Hutchinson said, "But then we've got a good team. We could beat almost any varsity team."
"They deserve every victory they get. They're great hockey player's, but they're even better guys," he added.
The team's only two losses this year were to the BU freshmen--understandable when one considers that the BU varsity team is the number one team is the number one team in the country--and to the Carlings, a group of ex-collegiate varsity hockey buffs in Cambridge.
The team has 10 more games scheduled, and Coach Hutchinson said that the JV's will probably equal their present record in the remaining games.
This will be Hutchinson's final season before his mandatory retirement at the end of this year.
