Golfers Get Sun; Lose to Brown By Eight Strokes

The Crimson golfers finally got some nice weather yesterday, but Brown spoiled the otherwise pleasant afternoon by beating Harvard, 394-402.

"It was one of the first days we've had that made us really feel like playing golf." Crimson captain Fred Sherman said after the match.

But the tricky Agawam Hunt Club in Providence-one of Brown's home courses-proved to be too much of an advantage for the Bruin squad. "The course had a lot of tricky dog legs," said Sherman. "And one hole had a tree right in the middle of the fairway."

Mediocre Season

The loss to Brown left the Crimson 5-6 on the year with two triangulars left to play. "It's turning into a very mediocre season. Of course, after the Easterns these matches are sort of anti-climactic, but we're all still trying for at least a winning season." Sherman said.

Brown's Andy Robertson led all scorers with a 77. Teammates Tom Cook-man, who placed sixth in the Easterns on Sunday, and Tyler Chase both had 78's. Jim Gallagher (79) and Dick Stevens (82) completed the Bruins' five-man team total.

Double Bogey

Skip Kistner once again led the Harvard links-men, shooting a 78. "Before I teed off. I felt like shooting about a 73. But I took a double bogey on the first hole and that kind of destroyed any hopes of a great round," Kistner said.

Sherman finished one stroke behind Kistner at 79 Sophomore Andy Marks continued his role as the steadiest of the Crimson golfers, turning an 18-hole total of 80.

John Stoviak had an 82, and Bill Salatich and Cooch Owen had 83's for the Crimson, Skip Barry, top scorer for the Crimson at the Easterns, was bothered by the flu and could only manage an 84.
