To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
The curriculum reform legislation recently developed by the Committee on Undergraduate Education is not a radical proposal (and was never intended to be one) in that it does not arise from a radical questioning of the goals or methods of a Harvard education. I do not deny the necessity of such a questioning, whatever out outcome might be. As Dean May pointed out in a letter to some members of the Faculty, the revisions "would be so designed as not to compromise in any way the ability of the Faculty later to review and make more important changes in the entire undergraduate curriculum."
The legislation under consideration at this time would simply make Harvard's system more flexible and equitable as an interim measure. I see this in itself as an important goal and hope the Faculty will support our attempts to approach it.
