You Can Bleed on Me

If you think you've got nothing that anyone could want, cheer up. They'll always take your blood.

The semi-annual Harvard Blood Drive launched its Spring campaign yesterday as 233 people donated blood.

The count was six ahead of last year's first-day total. The blood drive has been an annual Harvard event since World War II.

Because Harvard holds blood drives, all members of the Harvard community and their immediate families can receive unlimited amounts of blood. Between 20 and 50 per cent of the blood drive's yield goes to Harvard; the rest is sent to blood banks in Boston.

People wishing to give blood should go to Memorial Hall between 10:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Appointments are requested but not required. The drive will continue through Friday.

After they relinquish their blood, donors receive sandwiches and cookies served by Faculty wives. Jewish students can receive kosher food. The blood-giving procedure lasts about an hour and 15 minutes.
