The battle of nerves between Washington and Peking escalated yesterday when Red Chinese Premier Chou EnLai visited North Vietnam with a delegation of Chinese military advisors.
The visit came amid repeated threats from Saigon of a looming invasion of North Vietnam. Red Chinese propaganda has sounded cautiously belligerent since the South Vietnamese invasion of Laos began five weeks ago.

The westward push by 22,000 Saigon troops into the onetime enemy sanctuaries began February 4, four days before the South Vietnamese invaded Laos to cut the Ho Chi Minh trail.
In Laos yesterday, the fighting was limited to a few Marine skirmishes south west of the Laotian border. The U. S. command reported that five more American helicopters were shot down over the weekend, raising the total to 58.
