JV Six Ends Good Season

On March 6 Larry Desmond scored in overtime to lead the JV hockey team to an 8-7 victory over Yale. The win brought the team's record to 15-2-1.

Coach Jim Hutchinson feels that JV hockey deserves more attention. "Many of these players would be on the varsity almost everywhere else. I've been trying to get into Division 2 with teams like Amherst and Bowdoin for years, but they just won't play us."

The main purpose of JV sports is to develop varsity material, and Hutchinson thinks this year's team will provide plenty of prospects for the five vacancies on next year's varsity. Sophomores Steve Harris (22 goals, 19 assists) and Desmond (16 goals, 22 assists) will provide the toughest competition for the linemen coming up from the freshmen. Goalie John Grossman didn't lose a game.

Hutchinson said that the hardest games for the JV are against freshman teams, since they always have five or six varsity caliber players. In freshman competition this year the JV's beat B.U., 3-2, in overtime and Harvard, 5-2, for the first time since 1965. They lost to B.C., 5-4, and New Hampshire, 8-3, and tied loaded Northeastern, 1-1.
