The Cambridge City Council unanimously passed an order last night requesting the City Manager to try for an option to buy the Riverside Press site for the purpose of developing housing to serve the Riverside community.
The order proposed the establishment of a Riverside- Cambridgeport task force of 20 members to be assembled by the Riverside Planning Team, the Riverside Neighborhood Association and the Cambridgeport Planning Team. When this task force has been selected they will recruit, according to the order, a consultant to prepare a development program acceptable to the community for the site.
The Council reaffirmed its appropriation of $16,000 to fund the development consulting services.
City Manager John Corcoran submitted the order to the council in response to charges made two weeks ago by Saundra Graham, president of the Riverside Planning Team, that he had earlier promised action on the property but had taken none.
