Crimson Routs Tigers; Score on Power Plays

Concerned with its recently impotent power play, Harvard's varsity hockey team scored three times in the first period in man-advantage situations and rolled to a 12-4 rout of Princeton last night.

Crimson captain Joe Cavanagh led the Harvard assault with seven points, one goal and six assists, while Dan DeMichele scored four times, three tallies coming in the explosive first period.

The Crimson presented a well-balanced scoring attack, getting three goals from both the second and third lines.

Only Princeton's second line, however, could mount a sustained offense. Center Jim Tittemore scored twice, and wings Paul M?amara, a JV play?, and C?? Harmer, who didn't make the team at the start of the year, each tallied once.

But the game was ?nrgely a chance for the Crimson to fatten its scoring stat??. Bath teams played a slug? game, and Harvard concentrated its efforts on the Princeton net.

D??ichele opened the scoring in the slow-paced game at 2:42 of the period on a power play goal from Dave Jones and Cayanagh. After trading goals midway through the period. the Crimson put the game out of reach with four goals before the first intermission.

Dave Hynes put away a power-play tally at 9:45 and DeMichele scored his second goal during a Princeton penalty at 13 minutes. Jay Riley and DeMichele took the excitement out of the match before the buzzer sounded.

The Tigers made a small comeback in the second period. narrowing Harvard's lead to 6-3 with ten minutes gone, but Hynes, DeMichele, and Cavanagh connected within the span of six minutes to give the Crimson a six goal lead after two periods.

Bruce Darno, who only had to make fifteen saves in the first two periods. was replaced in the goal net by Joe Bertagna in the final session.

Harvard's victory let the Crimson only one game in the loss column behind Connell in the Ivy standings.
