Fresh from a season-opening rout over Southeastern Massachusetts on Saturday, Harvard's fencing team takes the Dudley St. bus crosstown for a 7 p.m. encounter with neighborhood rival MIT at the DuPont Athletic Center tonight.
The Engineers also opened the season with an impressive victory, crushing Brandeis on Saturday. Not given much of a contest in its 25.2 win over Southeastern Massachusetts. Harvard may have its hands filled tonight.
"I think MIT will be stronger in the fall where they have two veterans, one from Switzerland." Crimson coach Edo Marion said. "They may take the foil where we are not so deep, but the sabre looks good with Terry Valenzuela heading the list, and the epee is solid with Richard Bougar and Ken Bartels."
Geza Tetrallyay. Harvard's captain, has left his usual epee competition to help out in the foil category. Against the Corsairs. Tetrallyay scored three easy victories. Once the Boston area bouts are over and the Ivy season starts, he will move back.
After tonight's match, the Crimson will be idle until January 7, when they travel to CCNY. In the meantime. Marion will be emphasizing speed of attack during practices, in anticipation of perenially strong Columbia.
