FBI REVIEW

The Mail

To the Editors of the Crimson:

Garrett Epps' disclosure of the FBI's leaflet in Boston's Chinatown is just another instance of the arrogant and insidious tactics employed by the FBI. The leaflet's circulation represents all of the intimidation, coercion, and repressive scare-tactics of the "tyrannical rule" against which the FBI seeks to defend.

In seeking to revive "Yellow Peril" myths, the FBI endangers as compelling a "vital national interest" as any: a society free of government-perpetrated threat and admonitions.

The FBI's decision to single out residents of Chinatown for providing special proof of their loyalty to the United States is implicitly racist. In addition, this action is especially ironic in view of the fact that Chinatown residents, both citizens and aliens, are subject to United States tax and military service obligations.

Clearly, a full-scale review of the FBI and its policies is in order. Vern Countryman   Professor of Law   Milt Chen '74
