Hevern Out For Big Game

By Grady M. Bolding

Crimson guard Jerry Hevern's contact fotball career is over, but Harvard's overall physical situation is near-excellent going into The Game.

Hevern, an All-Ivy selection last year, suffered a jammed neck in the last quarter of the Princeton game and didn't play against Brown.

"My left jaw, my neck, and the left side of my chest were numb for a few days after Princeton," Hevern said. "But I thought I'd be all right by the Brown game."

By last Friday, the team physicians found that the injury was not just vascular, but also involved a damaged respiratory nerve center at the base of Hevern's neck.

"Friday they told me if I ever got clocked in the neck again. I wouldn't be abel to breathe," Hevern said. "My dedication to football dropped 99 per cent when I heard that."

Coach Joe Restic reported yesterday that tight end Howard Keenan, out with a knee injury since the Princeton game, and Hevern are the only two Crimson players who will be sidelined with injuries against Yale.

Sophomore Bob Kircher will fill in for Hevern at guard and John Hagerty will be at tight end for the Crimson. Both started the Brown game.

Offensive tackes John Ferullo and Monte Bowens both returned to action against Brown after missing the Princeton encounter, so the Crimson front wall is almost intact.

Yale Game

"We have a lot of guys out there who probably would not be playing this weekend if it wasn't the Yale game," Restic said.

Defensive tackle Mark steiner, who didn't play against Brown, has a tender shoulder, but will start Saturday.

Halfback Ted DeMars has a badly bruised elbow, which keeps gettin reinjured every game. But DeMars will also be starting in New Haven this weekend.
