The Yardlings boosted their season record to 4-1 yesterday, routing Brown 40-24. Harvard has a two-game winning streak and faces undefeated Yale next week in the final game of the season.
Brown came on strong in the first quarter as Pete Beatrice threw a 30-yard pass to split-end Jeff Smith. The conversion was good as Brown jumped ahead, 7-0.
Doug Gordon got the Yardlings moving, as Harvard began to drive into Brown territory. Gordon scored on a quarterback option. Pat McInally's conversion tied the score.
Harvard's stiffening defense forced Brown's John Ferring to kick a second-quarter field goal. Harvard and Brown traded touchdowns in the second quarter, giving Brown a 17-13 lead at the half.
Harvard's Alkinos Tsitsos scored in the third quarter on an 18-yard run. Halfback Steve Dart set up another score for the Crimson as quarterback Milt Holt connected with McInally for another touchdown.
Brown came right back to score and did on a keeper play by quarterback Beatrice. Harvard retained the lead, however, 27-24.
Holt hit his favorite receiver, McInally, for another touchdown in the fourth quarter giving the Yardlings a 33-24 margin. The key play of the game came, however, when Harvard safety,' Mike Page intercepted a midfield pass thrown by Brown quarterback Beatrice. Page ran the ball back for another touchdown, clinching the victory.
Coach Joe Restic and company were present for the game yesterday. They came to see if the lanky McInally might be able to bolster next year's varsity offense.
McInally didn't let them down, scoring 19 points, averaging close to 60 yards on kick-offs and completing 3 out of 4 conversions. Today's Schedule Harvard at Brown Cornell at Dartmouth Penn at Columbia Yale at Princeton
