The Harvard cross country team faces Brown today at Franklin Field, and shouldn't have too much trouble. The meet begins at 3:30 p.m.
"I don't expect Brown to be strong enough to give us much trouble," Coach Bill McCurdy said yesterday. "I don't know much about them, but I do know that Yale beat them rather handily last week. We'll just have to do better than Yale." Yale defeated the Bruins, 17-43.
The big question for the Harriers is whether sophomores Rick Rojas and Freddie Linsk will be able to run. Both are suffering from colds.
Rojas, who led the Crimson in its first two meets against Pennsylvania and Northeastern, was unable to run in Tuesday's meet against the University of Massachusetts and Providence College.
Linsk showed promise in the first two meets, but faltered Tuesday because of his illness.
Tops
McCurdy expects his top runners to be the same five who led the way on Tuesday. Captain Mike Koerner of Birmingham, Mich, is heavily favored to win the race tomorrow. He will probably be followed by John Quirk, Marshall Jones, Tom New and Jere Hines.
Bobby Seals, who competed this week for the first time all year is running, but still faces the problem of getting back into shape. "Though he improved considerably in his last outing, he's still got a long way to go," McCurdy said.
George Barker, who has been out all season nursing torn tendons in his left knee is also expected to make the effort tomorrow. However, Jeff Brokaw and Mark Connolly, also out of action thus far, probably won't make the run.
Brown's Finest
Brown's leading runner is Larry McMahon who ran fifth in the Yale meet. He was timed at 25:51 on Brown's 5.0 mile course.
The Bruins are suffering this year from the loss of Providence's own Larry Hanley. As a freshman last year, Hanley was Brown's leading runner. He is out this season with an injured achilles tendon.
Thus far this year, the Crimson Harriers have beaten three out of the four teams they've faced. Their only defeat came at the hands of the strong University of Pennsylvania squad.
The Freshmen will not be running today.
