Jim Palmer yesterday pitched the Baltimore Orioles into their third straight World Series with a seven-hitter. With Brooks and Frank Robinson providing home runs, Baltimore defeated the Oakland Athletics 5-3. The victory was Baltimore's 14th in a row.

In the National League playoffs, pitcher Bob Johnson and third baseman Rich Hebner led the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 victory over San Francisco. Pittsburgh now leads 2-1 in the best-of-five series.
