CLARIFICATION 1

To the Editors of The Crimson:

The Crimson in its October 6th article regarding admission to the Harvard Medical School erroneously reported that "almost 6,000 applications will be field this year for the 140 places in the class of 1976." The fact is that the Office for Admission has received 6,000 requests for applications. There is no way to accurately predict how many of those will actually be submitted by November 1, the deadline for the filling of applications.

I am writing also to clarify a statement attributed to me: that is "physicians make a lot of money while remaining their own masters." What, in fact, I did say in response to a specific question regarding income and the popularity of medical careers was that medicine obviously was prestigious and among the more lucrative of occupations, but I considered this to be less important to students today than it was in the past.
