The freshman soccer team played a hard and fast, if somewhat uncoordinated first game yesterday and came back from MIT winners, 3-0. Pitted against considerable skill and endurance on a very hot afternoon, the Crimson held competently in the goal, in the backfield, and on the attack.
Speedy left winger Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace broke a stalemate of muffed breaks, shots and centers in the second quarter. On a pass between defenders by Leroy Thompson, Wallace charged through to score.
Seven minutes into the third quarter Brock Walsh sent a long ball over the MIT backs to center Dan Potts. Potts, playing center for the first time, converted on a ricochet off the goalkeeper.
Inside Thompson leaped above the keeper ("Four feet at least," says Leroy) to head in a rebounding Vanderpool-Wallace throw-in. Following this score in the third, the Crimson, sweating hard, held MIT to four abortive shots. Art Faden's goaltending and rambling, long-legged backs Chris Adibe and Steve Meade strengthened the Crimson defense.
