Pittsburgh Edges Orioles, 4-3, to Tie World Series

The Pittsburgh Pirates evened the World Series at two games to two when they defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 4-3, in Pittsburgh last night. The game was the first night game in Series history and the Pirates responded to the historic occasion resoundingly.

They rattled three Orioles pitchers for 14 hits and overcame a three-run deficit to win. Baltimore scored all its runs in the first inning, knocking out Pittsburgh starter Luke Walker.

They rattled three Oriole pitchers in the bottom half of the first, then tied the score with a single run in the third inning.

Bruce Kison, who relieved Walker, and Dave Giusti shut out the Orioles in the final eight innings while the Pirates struggled to convert their numerous hits into runs. They finally broke the tie in the seventh inning when rookie Milt May singled home Bob Robertson with the winning run. Kison was the winning pitcher while Eddie Watt, who replaced Pat Dobson in the seventh, lost the game for Baltimore.
