Quincy 'B' Team Unbeaten in 16 Games

Quincy House won its 16th straight game Tuesday night and appears to be building a dynasty in the "B" league of House basketball.

At the moment, Quincy, Winthrop, and Kirkland are all tied with 4-0 records, and Quincy player-coach Rick Barton admits that both Winthrop and Kirkland pose a threat to his squad.

But Barton still has the favored team. The latest win was a 92-30 romp over Dunster, which had won two games earlier. "So they weren't pussies." Barton asserted. The score was 32-10 at halftime, and Quincy decided to try for 100. "That's playing our substitutes half the game," the coach pointed out.

"I defy you to find another team [in the league] that can score that many points." said forward Jon Aronson later that night in the Quincy House library.

Triple Nucleus

He, Barton, and Warren Ticknor are the senior nucleus of the team, which includes two sophomore starters-Jim Cameron and Jack Zwemer. They pride themselves on a tight zone defense, which has not yielded more than 35 points during the past year.

One reason for Quincy's success is its height advantage. Before each game the team goes through a dunking drill even though Cameron is the only one who can stuff the ball cleanly.

Barton is trying to set up a championship game through Floyd Wilson, director of intramural athletics. Wilson will try to arrange a game against the champions of Yale's "B" league or else with the best freshman intramural team at Harvard.

Despite Quincy's domination of the "B" competition, Barton doesn't think his team would do too well in the "A" competition. The players in "A" basketball are taller, better conditioned, and more talented. "We'd do all right, though." he said.

At the moment, superteams Winthrop and Leverett are leading the "A" league, and Winthrop got another boost two days ago when Eric Fox quit the varsity. Winthrop already has Joe Stanislaw and Stan, Mark, two who were in the basketball program last winter.
