WASHINGTON, D.C., May 8-Thirteen senior Harvard faculty members with long-standing ties in Washington spent today visiting senators and presidential aides to protest President Nixon's Southeast Asia Policy.
They visited Massachusetts Senators Edward M. Kennedy '54 and Edward Brooke, presidential foreign policy advisor Henry A, Kissinger, Undersecretary of Defense David Packard, and Undersecretary of State Eliot Richardson '41.
A large contingent of Harvard students also spent the day lobbying in the Senate.
Two meetings here tonight drew thousands of people. In the Sylvan Theatre near the Washington Monument, a crowd of about 6000 heard Yippie leader Abbie Hoffman and Black Panther Doug Miranda.
The crowd hooted and howled as the microphones were hooked up to a television set and President Nixon's press conference was broadcast to them. After the broadcast, Hoffman and the other speakers smashed the television.
Meanwhile, a memorial service for the four Kent State students slain last week was held at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church. After the service, thousands marched to the White House and set burning candles on the fence outside the President's mansion.
