Former Celtic K. C. Jones To Coach Basketball Here

K. C. Jones, former Boston Celtics star and head basketball coach at Brandeis for the past three years, will become assistant basketball coach at Harvard next year, athletic director Adolph W. Samborski 25 announced today.

Jones. Harvard's first full-time assistant coach, will work with Bob Harrison, head coach for the past two years and a former NBA star himself.

"I'm elated with K.C.'s decision to join us." Harrison said. "His main assignment will be working with our defense, and we couldn't have found a more qualified person. We think alike when it comes to basketball philosophy, and we're both dedicated to making Harvard an Ivy League contender."

"We were lucky to get Jones." Harrison said. "I think he recognized Harvard has a good program and that he can contribute a lot to it.

"K.C. won't have as much pressure here. but he'll still be in things. He won't have to worry about beating around the towns for kids-we don't do things that way here. He just won't have to do things here that he doesn't enjoy." Harrison added.

Both Harrison and Jones. who have been good friends for a long time, emphasize a running game-fast-break offense which became a trademark of the Celtics during Jones's years. A Celtic backcourt starter his last four pro seasons. Jones was known as a defensive standout.

Jones became head coach at Brandeis in 1967 after retiring from the Celtics and recorded a 36-33 record during three years with the Judges.

During his nine seasons with the Celtics, Jones played on eight straight World Championship teams.

Jones will have a strong core of guards to tutor next year. Captain Dale Dover Matt Bozek and Joe Stanislaw will be returning to the varsity while Jean Wilkinson and Stan Mark lead an impressive backcourt contingent from the 17-2 freshman team.
