As a meeting of Allston residents was breaking up last night. police arrived at the scene-Allston's Ringer Park-and arrested 12 people on charges of unlawful assembly.
The evening meeting took place in a two-acre section of the park which is now owned by the West End House. West End House plans to build a boys' club on the land.
At last night's meeting, several hundred local residents gathered to discuss the construction plans. The group met on the property with West End House's permission, according to Mare J.Roffman, and organizer of the meeting.
Local residents and members of Boston Area Ecology Action gathered at the park this morning to prevent construction from starting. Though workers came to the site today, West End House officials called off construction for the day and gave protestors permission to remain on the property until noon, Wednesday.
Last night's meeting began at 7:30 p.m. and broke up at 9:15 p.m. After most of the crowd had left, police arrived at the scene and began shoving people out of the park.
