The Organization for Black Unity (OBU) sponsored workshops and speeches yesterday in the first of a two-day conference on the subject "Is there a role for black students in white universities?"
Stokely Carmichael was scheduled to speak last night at Lowell Lecture Hall, and the hall was completely filled with an all-black crowd. As of midnight, however, he had not arrived.
OBU "Security Guards" in the vestibule of Lowell Lecture informed all whites that they were not allowed to enter the hall and frisked men as they entered.
Aaron H. Hutcherson '73, an OBU spokesman, refused to say what Carmichael would speak about or whether any other speakers were scheduled.
