Nixon Seeks Abolition Of Student Deferments

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

President Nixon yesterday abolished further occupational, agricultural, and fatherhood deferments and asked Congress for the authority to abolish further student deferments.

Persons who already hold or have applied for occupational, agricultural, or fatherhood deferments will be unaffected.

The abolition of student deferments would likewise affect only these students who do not already have deferments.

It would apply to four-year colleges, community colleges, junior colleges, and technical schools and apprentice programs. If a student were drafted after he had enrolled in a college, he would be permitted to finish the semester.
