Earth People Reschedule Festival; First Part Will Happen Tomorrow

The Earth People have rescheduled their "festival of life" in two parts-a sunshine festival tomorrow on the field space behind Watson Rink, and a larger gathering within the next few weeks.

The original festival was planned for today and tomorrow on the overpass between the Yard and the Law School, but Cambridge City Manager James L. Sullivan cancelled it after last Wednesday night's violence.

The Earth People announced the new schedule after meeting yesterday morning with Dean May, who allowed the gathering at the new location.

The idea for an Earth People's festival originated with a group of participants in an Institute of Politics seminar on youth culture.

The celebration tomorrow "will try to get people's energy back into productive channels after Wednesday night," one Earth person said yesterday.

The sunshine festival will last all day. Several bands have agreed to play, and there will be silk screening and body painting.

There are plans for setting up plastic air domes, teepees, and other structures, the Earth person said, but everything will depend on what the people coming to the festival want to do.

Plans for the larger festival also will depend on the reaction tomorrow.

The sunshine festival will be free and open to everyone.
