Henry Watson the only Harvard swimmer at the AAU Championships at Cincinnati this weekend finished teath yesterday??
The even ??-fed of six heats with the winner being date ??aitned on the basis of there Watson who had ranked only 30th in the 1650 before the meet had to swim in one of the slowest heats. and consequently was not pressed by competition He won his race easily.
"I'm kind of disappointed." Watson said last might "I thought I was ready to go 16:20 and I had hoped to be among the top ?? I should have gone out shower and saved more for a strong finish" he added.
Never tireless his time Saturday in the 1650 two the best of his career and almost 20 seconds faster than the winning time turned in are the Easterns last month by Syracuse's Brian Krause.
The winner Saturday was John Kinsella, a high school student who also won the 500-free at the AAU's. He set world records in both events, taking the 1650-free in 15:35.
In preparation for the meet, Watson had been swimming 6000 meters a day at home in Ft, Landerdale. He said last night that it did not bother him to work that hard. "You do it like you brush your teeth." he explained, "It only takes a couple of hours a day."
Watson is representing the Ft. Lauderdale Swim Association at the AAU's because it was able to pay all his expenses while Harvard could only afford part of his airline fare.
