Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
NEW HAVEN CONN., March 7-Divers Dick Eisenberg and Mike Wallace, and the freestyle relay team were the only Harvard winners this afternoon in Payne Whitney Gymnasium as Yale easily beat the Crimson for the eighth consecutive year, 75-37.
The victory gave Yale yet another Eastern League title. Harvard finished with an 8-3 overall record and was fourth in the league-the same as last year.
The Crimson's chances to do well today were further hampered by Steve Kranse's decision not to make the trip. "I didn't go because I didn't approve of the way the trip was handled." he said. It wasn't necessary to go overnight. "Krause said that if it had been a meet in which Harvard had a good chance to win, he probably would have gone anyway.
Freestyle Brightened Race
The win in the freestyle relay was undoubtedly the high point of the varsity meet. which was dull for the most part. Dave Powlison opened up a yard lead on the first leg and though Yale closed the gap slightly during the next two legs. Mike Cahalan insured the win with a strong anchor performance. The time, 3:12.8. broke the Harvard record and qualified the team for the NCAA's. Paul Horvitz and Toby Gerhart were the other members of the relay.
Powlison swimming the 200 free for the first time this year. tied the Harvard record of 1:47.5 held by Mark Shrout 68 while finishing second behind Olympian John Nelson.
