Police Make a New Arrest In CFIA Disruption Case

By Jeremy S. Bluhm

Cambridge police arrested a youth identified as Mark F. Doran yesterday morning and booked him on two assault and battery charges stemming from the September 25 disruption of Harvard's Center for International Affairs (CFIA). Doran was also charged with two counts of disturbing the peace, in connection with the incident.

After continuing Doran's case until April 3, Judge M. Edward Viola, of East Cambridge District Court, allowed Doran's release on $2000 bail.

History

Weatherman leader Eric M. Mann is currently serving a two-year sentence for his part in the September CFIA disruption. Viola ruled him guilty of three counts of assault and battery on November 26 and sentenced him to one year in jail. When Mann appealed, his sentence was doubled.

Two other Weathermen-Henry A. Olson and Jill H, Wattenburg-received fines of $400 and $200 in November on two counts of assault and battery each.

The CFIA-whose activities include political and economic research on underdeveloped countries-has been the object of Leftist criticism for alleged complicity in counter-revolutionary warfare.

A band of about 20 to 30 persons invaded the CFIA on September 25. roughing up several staff members and employees and breaking some windows. Several slogans-including "Pig," "Fuck U.S. Imperialism," and "Imperialists Screw All Women"-were sprayed on walls of the building.
