The Leverett House Committee will participate in the selection of the new Leverett Senior Tutor.
Dean May told the Committee yesterday that if they did not approve of his nominee for Senior Tutor, he would not forward the recommendation to the Corporation. May did not offer a definite answer on whether student opinion would be considered in future appointments.
May said he regretted the fact that he did not consult Leverett students before the selection. Ordinarily the House Master chooses the Senior Tutor, but Leverett's Master, Richard T. Gill '46, is presently on leave in England. May, however, did consult Master Gill and two members of the Senior Common Room before making his decision.
The students were concerned that the Senior Tutor nominated by May was not from Leverett House and that he would be a non-resident. May assured the students that the nominee would spend as much time in the House as the Tutor. May said, however. "If the committee does not like the man selected, he probably won't take the job."
George E. Christodoulo '71, chairman of the House Committee, said the committee plans to meet with May's nominee early next week. He said, however. "Dean May is actually begging the question of student participation by referring us to the man he has chosen. He gave us no concrete indication that student's would actually be consulted, present or future, in House appointments."
